What I'm Fighting For

Priorities

We all know that Michigan isn’t affordable enough. I’m running to put money in back in your pockets to make life a little easier. That’s why I’m focused on an agenda that will lower the cost of living and make a better Michigan for Vivian, Gavin, and all of Michigan’s children. That’s why I Support:

  • Affordable Michigan
    Relief for Families:
    • We need to build more homes to ensure affordability in the market, especially for first-time buyers. We should incentivize developers to clean up blighted and abandoned properties, transforming them into new housing.
    • Expand access to affordable childcare, so that parents can work and don’t have to worry if their children are okay.
    • Expand the successful and transformative Rx Kids program (which began in Genesee County) to support new families and their children from their earliest moments.
    Energy Affordability
    • The global energy instability we are experiencing due to the Trump administration and MAGA extremists’ illegal war in Iran has proven that we need an all-of-the-above approach to our own energy. Michigan should be leading the way for the future by cutting red tape to allow our citizens to own their own energy through renewable sources. That’s just common sense!
    • Prevent utility companies from raising rates without warning or justification to homeowners.
    • No one should have to empty their wallet to fill their tank. Skyrocketing gas prices create unnecessary strain on families. I support an all-hands-on-deck approach to lower the cost of gas in Michigan.
    Affordable and Accessible Healthcare
    • After the federal cuts, Michigan must protect small and rural hospitals and clinics to ensure access to quality affordable healthcare no matter where you live.
    • I support lowering prescription drug prices which disproportionately affect our seniors and those on fixed incomes by increasing competition and allowing manufacturers to provide low-cost drugs directly to patients.
    • Expand access to affordable mental health care.

  • American Dream Jobs

I will always be a supporter of good-paying union jobs and organized labor, which provide vital benefits and a living wage by protecting collective bargaining rights. In Lansing, I will:

    • Support unions and workers’ rights to organize and collectively bargain.
    • Support a living wage that helps to make Michigan more affordable and attract new workers.
    • Support small businesses through tax credits for new business owners.
  • Strengthening Public Schools

We know Michigan’s students aren’t just our future: they’re the present. That’s why I support:

    • Supporting and expanding access to career training centers like the Genesee Career Institute to promote skilled trades training and to give every student the highest-quality education possible to prepare them for their futures in college and the workforce.
    • Expanding dual enrollment opportunities to support community colleges and provide college credits at a fraction of the cost to our students and families.
    • Making the expansion in free school lunches for all students permanent. It’s hard enough to learn; and even harder when you’re hungry.

Teaching is one of our most noble and important professions, and the 68th district is home to some of Michigan’s greatest public school communities. That’s why I support:

    • Raising teachers’ wages so that they are paid what they are worth and can continue to educate our students while easing their financial fears.
    • Incentives to encourage college students to become teachers to combat the existing teacher shortage.
    • Preventing MAGA extremist attempts to slash teacher pay, shift public money into private schools, and cut school services and programs.
  • Good Government

When I served on the Flint City Council, I helped expose the mayor’s bad budget and helped give real transparency to the people. I will take that experience and the interests of our district to Lansing where I will support:

    • FOIA expansion to ensure Michigan’s government and our elected officials are accountable and transparent.
    • Campaign finance reforms to make sure Michigan’s elections are people-powered, so that no politician can be bought.
    • Creating safeguards around the use of Artificial Intelligence in political advertisements and communications to keep our democracy safe and prevent disinformation.
  • Clean Air, Water, and Soil

Michigan’s natural beauty is to be cherished and protected; from our wildlife, to our air, and our water from the Great Lakes, rivers, creeks, and streams. As a lifelong hunter and an outdoor enthusiast, I know the value that environmental safeguards can provide. That’s why I support:

    • Moratoriums on large data centers to guarantee that these facilities and their effects are studied thoroughly for their environmental and economic impacts, and so that local communities may give advice and consent before approval.
    • Preventing and treating lead exposure in our water through replacement of aging pipes and implementation of high quality monitoring and treatment systems.
    • Protecting and strengthening Michigan’s Department of Natural Resources to ensure the safety of our natural environment.
