Vote in the Primary Election: August 4th

Primary Election Day is Tuesday August 4. Polls will be open from 7 am to 8 pm on Election Day.

To vote in-person on or before Election Day, you need:

  • Use an accepted form of ID, such as:
    • Michigan driver’s license or state ID (may be expired)
    • Driver’s license or state ID issued by another state
    • Federal, state or local government-issued photo ID
    • U.S. passport
    • Military photo ID
    • Photo ID from an educational institution
    • Tribal photo ID
  • Contact The Michigan Election Protection Hotline (866-687-8683), for any questions you may have in line, day-of, or before election day!

On Election Day, you must vote at your assigned precinct. Some polling locations may change; make sure to check your polling location before heading to the polls on August 4! Stay hydrated, bring friends and family, charge your phone, and bring a snack for yourself and a neighbor!

Register to Vote

Michigan has same-day voter registration! This means that if you aren't registered on the day of the election, you can still register! Of course, it is recommended that all voters register as early as possible.

Absentee Voting / Vote by Mail

Online and mail requests for absentee (mail-in) ballots must be received by your township or city clerk no later than 5:00 pm the Friday before the election. If you are already registered at your address, you can request an absent voter ballot in person at your clerk's office anytime up to 4:00 pm on the day prior to the election.Begin the process early by mailing in your application for an absentee ballot as soon as possible.

Under State Law, we have a minimum of 9 days of mandatory early in-person voting.
